New artists come and new artists go in the country music world on a daily, no scratch that, an hourly basis. Some create a quick couple of songs and never seem to catch the attention of people before leaving town, while others never had to leave their town completely to find their sound. For Todd Berry, he never had to leave Indiana in some sense to find the sound he was going for with his new EP “Better Days To Cry.” The session players in Nashville recorded the music while Berry stayed at home in Indiana to cut his vocals. The result is an authentic sound that has one foot planted on a more modern era of country music while the other firmly holds down the past. The blending of past and present is evident throughout the EP on cuts like “Mobile Home” and “Politically Incorrect Redneck” where the lyric outlines who he is while wrapping around two-steppin’ beats that are a sure bet to get those dancers out on the saloon floors. While other cuts like the ballad, “Things A Man Needs to Say,” stand out for their subtle instrumentation that merely aids the vocals and lyrics as he delivers a lyric about all of the right things that a man needs to tell his woman when he loves her to show her how much he does and make her sure within’ their relationship. While Todd Berry isn’t necessarily breaking new ground and may not get noticed by today’s country music mainstream, he surely has found his niche on this EP and has delivered a solid effort that will attract a crowd ranging from the traditionalists to the saloon hall junkies that like to get their boot heels clickin’ on any given Friday night.
