Biography
Five Hundred Pound Furnace is Nick Steckler (Guitar), Kyle Ellefson (Vocals), Vincent Cuir (Bass) and Bobby C (Drums). The band was formed by Nick in winter of 2004 with drummer Allan Campbell, Alan was forced to leave the band due to medical problems in fall of 2006. The search was on for a new drummer, Bobby C was a perfect fit to the band adding his melodic drum styles influenced by Bill Ward and John Bonham to name a few.
The band was now ready to start making things happen booking some local shows to get the name back out there and fine tune their over the top stage show. The show is based on the 80’s hair metal days of action, long hair and ear bleeding riffs. A Furnace show is nonstop action from the word go until the last note is played with a thunderous ending to the set. Myspace has been a great tool seeking out new fans, but the ultimate clincher is seeing attending a show. Quote (Billy J d.j. on Freq107 Winnipeg alternative rock station) &&eyes wide with excitement “ You guys are the real F%$#in deal (repeated 5 times) I’ve seen so many bands in my day’s as a radio announcer, and you guys are the real F%$#in deal”&..another quote Gordo (program director Freq107) huge grin on his face “ I never want the show to end you guys blow my mind, and the drumming is amazing. I love it. I love it. I love it.” The band members feel the days of the “Really Big Rock Show” have seemed to vanished leaving us with good music and so so shows. So fasten your seat belt and be prepared to have your hair blown back The Furnace has brought back the chaos.

The bands sound is distinct in this day and age, you can tell a Furnace tune as soon as you hear the guitar sharp, bright with a little distortion. The music is full of energy and drive. Kyle’s vocals are huge, every sound man gets a warning to turn down the vocal channel before he wails as he’s blown some monitors and tweeters in his day. It’s in your face clear, even though he’s going full force you can still understand every word that comes blaring out of the speakers. Something Five Hundred Pound Furnace finds important is to clearly understand the vocals, how do you sing along with your favorite tunes when you can’t figure out the words. Music genera’s have expanded so widely these days it’s hard to tell what’s what, death metal, black metal, speed metal the list goes on. Five Hundred Pound Furnace would be considered heavy metal as it was named in the days of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and so on.

June 13th, 2007 Five Hundred Pound Furnace released their 3 song demo CD performing an hour and a half long show to a packed house. The CD sold out that night and to this day they’ve sold an approximated 400 copies. Their single ‘Angry Faces’ is getting radio play in three major cities in Canada (Winnipeg, Regina and Calgary). The band is working on getting air play in every major city in Canada. The process is slow as they are doing it all independently.

The Furnace is raising money playing any show they can in the Winnipeg area selling their T-shirts and CD’s to help finance more recording and tours, as the goal is to take the band to new heights. They have got on bills opening for Jen Militia and Days Of The New.
