Biography
MEET THE ATMA

The question always comes up, “So what does your guys-ez band sound like?” The simple honest answer would be nothing you’ve ever heard before. But if you had to pigeon-hole this thing we do, The ATMA plays an edgy, inventive, soulful breed of rock music.

This band is what happens when funk and punk go to bed with the Super-unknown. Put Salvador Dali, The Pixies, Bob Dylan, and a hurricane into a blender and that smoothie might taste something like The Atma. That’s as close as you’ll get to a summary of our sound, because this band’s music is as colorful as the people in it, and we are all about originality.

Rocking the L.A. underground music scene since 2002, our trio has just spent the year gigging in the wake of releasing our debut record, “On My Artichoke.” The album itself is psychedelic romp through 15 radically diverse tracks featuring a wide variety of sound and meaning. Songs such as the lighthearted “Pheremones” showcase the band’s funkier side, while tracks such as “Idiots” reflect the grittier aspects of the band’s musicianship.

Traces of everything from classic rock, 90’s alternative, reggae, jazz, blues, swing, punk, and psychedelia are evident throughout, but don’t believe us, go hear it for yourself. Thus far, the record has been warmly received by our fans and has garnered some positive reviews in the indie music and online communities.

There is a lyric on the first album:

The drums will dance for those again
Who still believe in thunder

Perhaps this best describes the attitude and ambition of The ATMA. We believe in the spirit and energy that’s behind all the great inspiring music that we grew up listening to. Our dream is to put something out there that is honest and original and to share it with the world in a big way. We have worked hard to be a part of this band, and we’d like to believe as we prepare to go into the studio and record our next record, that the depth and intensity of our music reflects that dedication.

Just how far we will go in the course of our career as a band no one can say, but one thing you can expect from The ATMA is that we will always pour everything we’ve got into every show we play, every jam we jam, and every moment we are lucky enough to be a part it. Thanks for taking the time to read about us and we hope to see you out there at one of our shows, where we will be laying it down with 100% balls-to-wall love for those who would come and listen.

Sayonara-Adios,

The ATMA

LA-BASED BAND READIES POTENTIALLY HUGE RELEASE!

“MACHETES OF GOLD”, The ATMA’s upcoming CD release, gathers mounting praise

Seemingly out of nowhere, Los Angeles-based rock trio The ATMA has assembled what early listeners, from teenagers to seasoned music business pros, are calling an “instant classic” that is poised to be seen as nothing less than a "major popular music contribution". The band, a trio who are each in their twenties, play an edgy, inventive, soulful and somewhat psychedelic breed of rock music which features distinct, meaningful and/or whimsical lyrics supported by excellent musicianship and an exciting, charismatic live performance style.

The collection, titled “Machetes of Gold” was produced and engineered by Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Melissa Etheridge, Fiona Apple) in a million-dollar room designed by and built for George Massenburg (Dixie Chicks; Billy Joel; James Taylor) at Nashville’s Blackbird Studio, owned and operated by John and Martina McBride, and will be mastered by multiple Grammy Award-winning engineer, Richard Dodd (Tom Petty; Dixie Chicks; George Harrison). The band is managed by Dan Nash of Just Great Management, a former Atlantic Records/A&M Records audio engineer who later built a multi-million dollar software company /Internet media consultancy, is now combining "old school" artist development with "Culture of the Net" marketing.

Ken Hertz, whose disproportionately successful boutique Beverly Hills entertainment law firm Goldring, Hertz, & Lichtenstein, has been responsible for introducing artists such as Alanis Morrisette; Destiny’s Child; Beyoncé; No Doubt; Gwen Stefani; Christina Aguilera; and The Black Eyed Peas, calls it “… one of the most original collections of pop music I’ve heard in years.”

Band members include: “The Oblivious Driver” (24) on lead vocals and guitar; virtuoso bassist Wade Ryff (22) who also plays guitars, keyboards, melodica, and sings backgrounds; and drummer/percussionist/background singer, LoOkas Ventura (27).

The band’s next live performance will not be until late February, at the CD’s release party.
